Parking is generally available but there are a few exceptions.
On St. John a few beaches have very limited parking including Jumbie and Gibney. The earlier in the day you go the more parking will be available. The same is true for Cruz Bay and the area around the St John ferry dock.

Starfish Market in the Marketplace usually has the best selection of fresh produce and proteins, but you're obviously going to pay a premium. And now that they have a gourmet store across the hall, you'll have to spend time in two lines or split up the shopping if you want any liquor, wine, or specialty cheeses. They stock up on Sundays, so if you come in on Saturday and its crazy there with tourists fresh off the boat, you can come back later on.
Dolphin Market on Centerline Road has good finds in the produce section sometimes. Stuff you wouldn't expect to find. If you like to cook on vacation, you might find some nice things to play with. Also premium prices.
Pine peace Market is where the locals go to get the basics and they have the best prices on liquor, wine, and tobacco.
Its hit or miss with the basic produce section in the back, and all the meats are the frozen kind.
Baked in the Sun (also in the Marketplace)is the place to go if you need bakery bread. Their croissants are incredible! And if you are packing a picnic lunch, try their kaiser rolls instead of the requisite frozen baguette.
There is a relatively new store in the Raintree Building that carries the basics as well. No produce or meat, and they seem to be closed in the mornings.
If you're staying in Coral Bay, there is Love City Mini Mart (basics) down the road from the gas station or Lily's (more than basics) in the Cocoloba complex by Aqua Bistro.
You can also get Josephine's organic greens and produce fresh off the farm if you go past Love City Mini Mart all the way down the road. They are open in the early afternoon.

If you’re into shopping, you’ll be pleasantly surprised with the Virgin Islands. St. John has a wonderfully eclectic assortment of locally-owned shops and art galleries, many with unique souvenirs. There’s no sales tax in the V.I., and shopping here is duty free. St. Thomas has an abundance of shops where you’ll find excellent prices on jewelry, liquor, cigarettes, crystal and electronics.
Depending on the items you are looking for, shopping on St. Thomas is not necessarily cheaper... but there will be a wider variety than on St. John.

For such a small island, St. John has a surprising array of restaurants to choose from. You can have anything from your typical bar food to five star cuisine. Many restaurants accommodate vegetarians, and you’ll also find seafood, Asian-inspired cuisine and Mediterranean food. There are plenty of talented chefs on island with lots of worldly experience to draw from. You could also stop by one of our delis on the way to the beach for a picnic lunch, or try some local West Indian food from one of the food vendors stationed in Cruz Bay. Several of the island’s restaurants offer children’s menus as well.

The forecast usually calls for a chance of rain because some part of the island will generally experience a brief shower at some point during the day. It’s rare you’ll experience a full day of nothing but rain. When this does happen, it’s usually caused by a tropical wave or other type of storm system passing through the area. You can expect a higher chance of rainfall during hurricane season, August through November.

During off season, most villas require you stay at least five nights, and in season your reservation usually must be for a minimum of seven to ten nights.
This makes it more difficult to stay at a villa if it is a short trip or if you are island hopping.
Anything is possible, so check with us... often there are several day 'gaps' in a villa's calendar... and it might be just what you are looking for.

Formal Answer: The Virgin Islands is on Atlantic Standard Time, and we do not observe Daylight Savings. During Daylight Savings, it’s the same time in the V.I. as it is in the eastern part of the U.S., which is on Eastern Time. When Daylight Savings ends, it’s an hour later in the Virgin Islands than it is in the Eastern Time Zone.

The U.S. dollar is the currency used in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Keep in mind that not all businesses accept credit cards, so it’s best to have plenty of cash on hand. There are ATMs on island should you need more cash during your vacation. The U.S. dollar is also the currency used in the British Virgin Islands.

If you absolutely must stay connected during your vacation, the good news is that several major cell phone providers have coverage in the U.S. Virgin Islands. With AT&T (formerly Cingular Wireless), which has the best coverage, you’ll get service across much of St. John. Sprint has decent coverage as long as you’re facing St. Thomas. Otherwise, you will likely be roaming and have spotty or no service. Verizon Wireless does work in the islands, however you will be roaming during your entire trip. No matter who your service provider is, make sure your phone is set to alert you when you are roaming. Wireless phones will sometimes pick up cell towers in the BVI, and the roaming charges when this occurs are quite expensive.
